The Paraguayan guitarist, Agustín Barrios Mangoré, (1885-1944) travelled across Brazil to perform concerts and influenced the development of guitar playing in the country. He also came into contact with Brazilian musicians, such as João Pernambuco and it is probably from them that he learnt a few urban rhythms from the start of the 20th century. The title Choro da Saudade has two meanings and can be translated as “Choro of Yearning” or “Weeping with Yearning”.
